Food & Fashion are, perhaps, the best words to me in the world! And, therefore, it’s only natural to be a little too nostalgic (not to mention, lazy :P) when the most desirable destinations like Paris & New York come together! Well, Raf Simons, creative director of the French fashion house Christian Dior, made it possible with the production help of Bureau Betak on May 07, 2014 by arranging the Dior Cruise 2015 show at the Duggal Greenhouse of Brooklyn Navy Yard!
The pleasant shock was not over yet, while the designer filled the more than 1,000 fashion hungry invitees of his show with the mind blowing collection comprising of 66 individual looks. The guests list was full of names from the front line in fashion & media- Rihanna, Marion Cotillard, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Leelee Sobieski, Allison Williams, Margot Robbie, the artist Sterling Ruby, and designers including Christian Louboutin, Proenza Schouler‘s Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough.
The arrangement of the show was like one of its kind; but the designs were far too out-of-the box to, if not be hypnotized, well, at least, super-charmed! Personally, I find each of the looks as well as each of the individual pieces wearable to every type of occasion. But a little details is required here. So, let’s get there.
The collection was first and foremost, a very modern one- to simply put. It highlighted everything that modern women adore these days, high-wasited lean trousers, knee-length skirts, backless camisoles and all that. But the uniqueness was created through innovation- the way the pieces were designed was simply something never-before-seen. That is why, I personally believe, it’s going to create a real buzz for the brand’s value and identity.
Take a second a look at these pictures, and see how beautifully clean, modern they are; even the skirts – which are nicely flared. Don’t ignore the bracelet though, it’s got the print of the ‘Le Carré‘- the traditional Dior Scarves. And, of course, there are those sneakers with a little modification.
Another very chic item of this collection were those strapped short-dress which were constructed with squares of embroidered organza and were made in different shades like yellow, olive, orange etc.
This is one hell of a chic dress and I personally prefer this one for a romantic date. It’s flirty, fun and young. But as far as the look is concerned, I would prefer different shoes- this pair is definitely not a match for such a soft dress.
My next note from this collection is about the use of the traditional Dior Scarves in making asymmetric skirts.
This is surely fun, flirty, young, chic- you can’t really stop! I love it! And, this time the pieces are put together with compatibility. But who cares! Fashion is, after all, a person’s own way of styling!
So far, the fun & chic items of the collection have been discussed. Now, there are few other things which make the collection safe enough to run smoothly throughout the entire season, even beyond! The jackets! This collection has come up with quite a few different and new style with jackets.
Clearly, no explanation required! There are all types that modern women are looking forward to- from very regular to completely out-of-the box- these jackets are suitable to create a lasting impression at any occasion. I love the sleeveless one which redefines ‘cool’ and the New Look Bar Jacket which accentuate the hour-glass (so typically Dior 🙂 ) body shape a little further.
With a little fringe around the hem, the hair-line effects in the jacket of silhouette 46 is a perfect one for both a casual hang-out by the day or a formal meeting. And, the entire look of silhouette 57 is simply ‘WOW’-worthy for a corporate woman. For professionals like myself, it’s an outfit with multiple benefits- stylish, professional, comfortable, modern, young and above everything, it shows that the wearer takes a very good care of herself and is well capable of handling pressure in style!
Oh, don’t ignore that bag in silhouette 30. See? Its similar to the print of the jacket in silhouette 43- what a match this can make! The next new thing in this collection is this pair (and many other like this one) of tie-up sandals that has got the silk scarf.
Perfect look – I must say.
The collection has got modernism and has given that a very flared, soft, chic shape. Every piece is beautifully designed and wearable to any occasion throughout the season. Some of the beautiful prints, probably heart of this collection, are retrieved from the house’s archive, “I wanted to explore print without being too romantic about it,” says Raf, “I was surprised by how raw and artistic some of the archival scarves were.“
Now, it’s time for my top 3 picks of this collection.
The little black dress with an effortlessly flirtatious and romantic vibe! It’s clean, it’s young, it’s comfortable and very much fashionable. Feels like, its capable of taking a couple of years (no offense 😉 ) away from the wearer. No wonder, it tops my list!
Ooooo! The very first thing that came to my mind when I saw this one on the ramp is, a seriously stylish and strong woman is walking there and she is here to stay & rule! Every lady, who is proud of ownself, would love to see herself in this outfit. Specially, the sleeveless jacket. It’s fun & smart, and strikes that serious attention which every woman deserves.
Fun- check, flirty- chekc, chic- check, smart- check, strong- check! Seriously, need more?
The collection, to be in stores in November, comprises of 66 stunning looks and surprisingly to Raf, Sidney Toledano- President & CEO of Dior pointed that this i.e. 2014 is the 66th years of Dior Inc. U.S.A.!
